Are you feeling stressed at work? In a constant state of feeling like you need a day off or some solution to your stress before you burn out? We all find ourselves feeling stressed sometimes. However, if stress is interfering with your productivity and working life, it’s important to identify the cause of the stress and find a solution. Today we’re going to talk about some top tips for reducing stress and making working life easier.
- Full and proper rest.
It’s important that you rest during your time away from work. Sometimes when you’re busy it can be hard to find time to get 8 hours of sleep a night but it’s important to make sure you’re properly rested in order to keep your stress levels low. Equally, it’s important to make sure you utilise your time off from work correctly. Don’t spend too long stressing about work over the weekends or during your spare time. That time is there for you to relax. It is important to achieve a healthy work/life balance; meaning, you should leave work at work and enjoy yourself in your life at home. Remember to stay social and keep friends and family in your life especially as they act as your support network.
- Exercise.
Exercising is great for getting those all important endorphines that make you feel good as well as maintaining a healthy lifestyle. If you can find the time for even 20 mins or half an hour each day to exercise, you’ll find that your stress levels reduce drastically. Additionally, exercise will tire you out and make it easier for you to go to bed earlier and therefore get enough sleep.
- Organise yourself.
If your life and your desk are looking and feeling like a bit of a mess, you’re going to be causing yourself unnecessary stress. Ensure you have your plans for the day properly planned out and your desk tidy so that you can focus on which tasks need to be completed next. Use lists, calendars, folders and organisers to get everything into a place where you can easily find it and keep yourself aware of what tasks need completing in which order. You can also use this opportunity to prioritize your tasks so that you know which of them are most important and put the amount of work you have to do into perspective to help you feel less overwhelmed by your workload.
- Don’t bottle it up.
It’s important to make sure you don’t bottle up your emotions and cause yourself unnecessary stress by not talking through your problems. If the cause of your stress is personal, talk to a family member or partner or go for counselling. If the cause is work, talk to your boss about it and see if there’s anything they can do to help relieve your stress.
- Eat and drink healthily.
Healthy diet choices are important for maintaining high energy levels and low stress levels. Try to avoid drinking too much alcohol as sleeping intoxicated is likely to lead to a bad nights sleep and feeling more tired the next day. Eat at regular intervals throughout the day to ensure you are not hungry and distracted from work.
